Thirty-two persons attended the Rio Grande Branch ASM Annual Meeting, held at Sul Ross State University in Alpine Texas on April 2-3 2004. Eight members attended the ASM Branch business meeting on April 3, 2004. |

It was agreed by the officers to give $20 travel reimbursement to all non-local (non-SRSU) students who were presenting either oral or poster presentations. |

Faculty members who were judging student presentations decided to award prizes of $100 to the best undergraduate and graduate presentations. All others get honorable mentions and free ASM student memberships. |

The next Annual Meeting for 2005 will be held at NMSU in Las Cruces, NM in the early February timeframe. |

Kevin Oshima was interested in pursuing the development of a branch website on the internet and will look into whether we can get any reimbursement from national ASM to do this. Kevin would also like a list of points of contact for each institution represented by the region. |

The question came up on how we can increase membership of national ASM members in the regional branch. Can branch membership be free? Can there be a 3-year membership without having to re-enroll? Can we obtain a list from ASM of national members in the NM-West TX area? |

There was a question as to which institutions currently had ASM Student Chapters. The only one at this time is UTEP (with a $5/year membership fee). SRSU asked for branch approval to start a Student Chapter; this proposal was approved. |

The Treasurer’s report that we had $4071.42 as of 1 April, 2004 was approved. |
