Over 50 persons registered for the Rio Grande Branch ASM Annual Meeting, held at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces NM on February 25-26, 2005. Eight full ASM members attended the ASM Branch business meeting on February 25, 2005. |

It was agreed by the officers to give $25 travel reimbursement to all non-local (non-NMSU) students who were presenting either oral or poster presentations. |

Faculty members who were judging student presentations decided to award cash prizes of $100 to each of the two best undergraduate poster and oral presentations and the two best graduate poster and oral presentations, for a total of $800 in awards . All of the winners get free ASM student memberships. |

Tom Kieft at NM Tech offered to host the next Annual Meeting for 2006. Thus the meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held at NM Tech in Socorro, NM in the early February timeframe, with UNM in ABQ as a backup plan if Tom declines. |

Kevin Oshima will soon be submitting a Branch Funding Proposal. |

It was proposed and passed by the voting members that we institute a 3-year rolling membership for students, in which we retain their names on the membership roster for a period of three years, even though they may not attend the Branch Meeting each of those years. It was also proposed that full ASM members pay a $30 registration fee for a 3-year membership in the Branch. This is a way that we can increase membership of national ASM members to meet the required number of members (25?) to having a voting Branch at National meetings. |
