Actinomycetes
I have an inquiry on a reference laboratory for an aktinomyces serology. Are you aware of such a laboratory in the USA or in Europe? In addition we would eventually like to perform a specific PCR for Aktinomyces.

We have had 2 situations where a Nocardia nova and Nocardia farcinica have stained quite strongly with our regular acid fast stain (not modified, partial). Could this be related to the age of the organism? Any other suggestions on why this would happen?

How do you distinguish Actinomyces from Proprionibacterium?

If a gram positive branching bacillus does not grow on GC selective media can it be assumed that the isolate is not a Nocardia sp. (this question in reference to p.515 MCM 8th.Ed.)? Thanks for your help. Javier Garcia Austin, Texas jvno4@austin.rr.com
