Why I Sought ABMLI Certification
|
“ABMLI certification is an elite credential for clinical laboratory immunologists, and provides a comprehensive measure of knowledge in the expansive field of immunology. For me, this certification is a testiment of my expertise in clinical immunology, and provides reassurance to clients that require laboratory consultations.” |

“The ABMLI certification is the only recognition of its kind available to laboratory immunologists. To me, the ABMLI certification offers validation of my ability to direct a diagnostic immunology laboratory as well as recognizes my expertise in the field of diagnostic laboratory immunology. The depth of knowledge required for the ABMLI examination provides a strong foundation for a career not only in a diagnostic laboratory, but in the biotech and pharma industry, academia and regulatory organizations.” |

Vijaya Knight, M.D., Ph.D., D(ABMLI) |

"ABMLI certification serves as continuation and recognition of my training and experience I acquired in Hungary’s largest clinical immunology laboratory. It is recognized in both the academic and commercial fields and by both peers and organizations as the highest level of qualification in clinical laboratory immunology. As the highest level of certification in the field of clinical laboratory immunology, it satisfies regulatory requirements for service as a laboratory director, and it certainly provides excellent opportunities in clinical, academic, biotechnology and even regulatory/government organizations." |
|
Gabriella Lakos, M.D., Ph.D., D(ABMLI) |

"The ABMLI certification is a well-recognized credential for a Ph.D. or M.D. level immunologist practicing clinical and diagnostic immunology. For me, this certification validates my expertise in basic and clinical immunology as well as the regulations governing the practice of this vital health care service by my peers. As a laboratory director, it grants me the required credential for my job, bestows self-assurance and confirms to patients, clinicians, and regulatory authorities my competence in directing the performance, evaluation, and interpretation of clinical immunology tests." |
|
Anne E. Tebo, Ph.D., D(ABMLI) |
|
"Preparing for the ABMLI certification exam encouraged me to familiarize myself with a wide array of immunological methods that I would not have otherwise been exposed to. This familiarity has increased the breadth of my understanding of day to day practice in my specialized area of clinical transplant immunogenetics and histocompatibility and will certainly give me an advantage in advancing my career. I would argue that ABMLI is one of the most compressive professional credential in the field of clinical laboratory immunology in the world and being a holder of this certification equates to meeting the highest professional standards in this field." |
Medhat Askar, M.D., Ph.D., D(ABMLI)Director, Allogen Laboratories Cleveland Clinic Cleveland, Ohio |
|
"ABMLI certification, for me, served as validation of all of the hard work that I had done during my fellowship. More importantly, it is validation by my peers and others in the field that I am qualified to direct a clinical immunology laboratory. ABMLI certification is recognized by institutions and organizations as the ultimate achievement in clinical immunology training." |
Susan Orton, Ph.D., D(ABMLI)Assistant Professor, Division of Clinical Laboratory Science University of North Carolina School of Medicine Chapel Hill, North Carolina |

"ABMLI certification is an important and foremost credential for anyone practicing clinical laboratory immunology in the academic, industrial or government arena. It is a critical and vital part of the laboratory director's qualifications. It is a highly acceptable way to measure experience, training, and competence." |
Barbara Detrick, Ph.D., D(ABMLI)Director, Immunology Laboratory The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Baltimore, Maryland |

"I sought ABMLI certification as it was the logical means to achieve my goal of being a Clinical Immunology Laboratory Director. I feel that ABMLI certification is the most appropriate means to validate one's training and experience in Medical Laboratory Immunology and to satisfy regulatory requirements for service as a Director of a Clinical Laboratory." |
John Schmitz, Ph.D., D(ABMLI)Associate Professor, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine University of North Carolina Director, Histocompatibilitiy, Flow Cytometry and Immunology Laboratories University of North Carolina Hospitals Chapel Hill, North Carolina |
|
"To me, the ABMLI is the patients’ insurance that laboratory tests of immunologic function are properly performed, supervised and interpreted. Having an ABMLI Diplomate in charge ensures that immunologic tests directly affecting health are properly carried out. At the same time, ABMLI recognizes the competence of the immunologist in carrying out his professional responsibilities. Finally, it allows a hospital director to know that his immunology laboratory is performing at the highest level. Thus it is a winning proposition for all." |
Noel R. Rose, M.D., Ph.D., D(ABMLI)Professor of Pathology Professor of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology Director, Johns Hopkins Center for Autoimmune Disease Research The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health Baltimore, Maryland |
|
"ABMLI is the only board certification exam of its kind for people with training in clinical laboratory immunology and therefore bestows appropriate credentials on laboratory directors who oversee clinical immunology labs. For me, as a clinical immunology lab director, obtaining ABMLI certification has been a key component in establishing the necessary credentials required for the job." |
Roshini S. Abraham. Ph.D. D(ABMLI) Co-Director, Immunology Laboratory Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota |
|
"Board certification is a requirement for a medical staff appointment, including the clinical scientific staff, at Summa Health System, where I work. ABMLI certification is the only available vehicle for Ph.D.trained clinical scientists who oversee diagnostic immunology laboratories to obtain board certification. The ABMLI Diplomate status is recognized by CLIA as a laboratory director qualification which isa requirement for the position I hold at a large community teaching hospital. When I have questions or need information about a procedure or assay with which I have no direct experience, I can always find another Diplomate who has the expertise I need. Knowing the capabilities necessary to obtain Diplomate status gives me the confidence to trust their experience and judgment." |
