Professors, department chairs, mentors, or anyone working with students can purchase four student memberships for the price of three, or for $15 each - a discount of $5 per student membership.
There are two ways to take advantage of this offer:
ONLINE
1) Go to the estore and purchase a four-pack of discounted student memberships for $60. Please note that you must be logged into the estore to make this purchase. If you do not already have an estore account, please create one here, then click the "purchase" link on this page.
2) After the transaction is processed, we will send you a coupon code within 1 business day.
3) Distribute the coupon code to up to 4 student membership recipients.
4) The students complete their application or renewal online as usual, but enter the discount code on the payment screen.

Student and Postdoctoral Chapter Support Funding Guidelines
Student and Postdoctoral Chapter Funding Request Form
Introduction
The ASM Student and Postdoctoral Chapter Support Program provides up to $300 in funding per calendar year for each Student and Postdoctoral Chapter. The goals of the program are to
-
- Increase collaboration between Branches and Chapters
- Strengthen the relationship between ASM and Chapters
- Facilitate student and/or postdoctoral-based microbiology-related programs and events at the university level
- Fund activities within Chapters
The Student and Postdoctoral Chapter Support Program is administered by the Branch Organization Committee (BOC), which is composed of the Committee Chair and seven Regional Planning Coordinators (RPCs), who oversee the activities of the Branches and Chapters in their respective regions. All Chapter Funding Proposals will be reviewed by an RPC or the BOC Chair, and only approved proposals will be funded. Funding is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, until all available money is awarded.
Funding Application Process
Chapters wishing to apply for funding must complete the following steps:
- Complete a Funding Proposal Form, indicating Chapter name, amount requested, short description of proposed activity, and Faculty Advisor name and contact information
- Obtain approval signature from Faculty Advisor
- Submit completed form to ASM HQ* for final routing to RPC
Upon receipt of completed proposal forms, ASM HQ Staff will do the following:
- Route the proposal form to the appropriate RPC for review/approval
- Inform local Branch about proposed Chapter activity
- Process approved proposals and send funding letters and checks to contact names indicated on proposal forms; RPCs and Branches will be copied on funding letters
*ASM HQ Address for Submitting Proposals:
Attn: Anne Dempsey
E-mail Submission Preferred: adempsey@asmusa.org
Regular Mailing Address: c/o ASM; 1752 N Street, NW; Washington, DC 20036
Fax: 202-942-9346
Reporting Requirements
Each Student and Postdoctoral Chapter must submit an Annual Report to ASM HQ that includes a short report on the funded activity (it will not be necessary to document expenditures in detail). Annual Reports are due to ASM HQ by April 15th. A Call for Reports will be sent in early February. Note – If a Chapter conducts an activity with a local Branch, the Branch may also request a short report on the funded activity for its Branch Annual Report.

2012 ASM Student Chapter Support Program: Funding Guidelines
Introduction
The Student Chapter Support Program provides up to $300 funding for each ASM Student Chapter. The goals of the program are to
- Increase collaboration between Branches and Student Chapters
- Strengthen the relationship between ASM and Student Chapters
- Facilitate student-based programs/events at the university level
- Fund activities within Student Chapters
To qualify for funding, proposals must be submitted either (1) jointly with a Branch if the Student Chapter was sponsored by a Branch when chartered, or (2) solely by the Student Chapter if it was sponsored by the Branch Organization Committee (BOC) when chartered. $10,000 is available in 2012 for the Student Chapter Support Program and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The BOC welcomes all funding requests for programs organized and scheduled for 2012.
Funding Application Process
To apply for funding, a 2012 Student Chapter Support Program Proposal Form and a summary of the program, activity or project must be completed and submitted to either (1) the Regional Planning Coordinator (RPC) if submitted jointly with a Branch or (2) the Branch Organization Committee (BOC) Chair if not submitted jointly with a Branch. Upon submission, the proposal will be reviewed for funding consideration.
All completed proposal forms and summaries must be submitted by December 31, 2012. If approved, a check will be issued and sent to the individual identified in the proposal summary. A copy of the funding letter will also be sent to all pertinent parties.
Funding Reporting
For Student Chapters sponsored by a Branch when chartered: Once monies have been spent, a brief report should be provided to the BOC through the Branch Annual Report. In the Branch Annual Report, the Branch President or Secretary will certify that the monies were spent in support of the activity that was the subject of the proposal. It is not necessary that expenditures be documented. The Branch Annual Report is due to ASM Headquarters on January 1, 2012. 2012 funding will not be approved until a report of 2011 funding is received.
For Student Chapters sponsored by the BOC when chartered: Upon receipt of monies, the Faculty Advisor of the Student Chapter should return the “ASM Student Chapter Acknowledgement of Funds Received” form to ASM Headquarters. The Student Chapter Annual Report (due annually on February 15) will request information about how the funds were used. A copy of the activity report will be provided to the BOC Chair, as required. 2012 funding will not be approved until a report of 2011 funding is received.
