The Audioconference “Case Studies of Viral Infections in Hospital Patients,” originally scheduled for presentation on December 3, 2003 was presented on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 and will soon be available in an on-line streaming format. The Audioconference, “Laboratory Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases: Tips for Dealing with Coding and Compliance Issues” which was presented on December 17, 2003, is now available in an on-line web-streaming broadcast format.

Pet Snakes May be Source of Salmonella - German researchers have determined that exotic reptiles maintained as pets may be responsible for an increase in Salmonella cases in humans. Their findings appear in the January 2004 issue of the journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology.
Triclocsan: The Next New Drug? - The antibacterial compound triclosan, used in dermatological and oral hygiene products as well as antibacterial soaps and cleaner, shows promise as a drug for treating systemic bacterial infections say researchers from India. Their findings appear in the December 2003 issue of the journal Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.
