In the July 10 Federal Register, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Department of Agriculture announced the availability of the "Animal Welfare; Definitions for and Reporting of Pain and Distress" and requested public comments by September 8. APHIS is also considering replacing or modifying the system used to classify animal pain and discomfort.
