Her laboratory provides infrastructure and molecular testing for numerous multi-center clinical studies. She is also a member of the Aspergillus Technology Consortium, which maintains a repository of clinical specimens from subjects diagnosed with or at risk of Aspergillus infections and tests new diagnostic assays for Aspergillus infections.

Caliendo is an active volunteer. She is an Editor for the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Virology, and current Past-President of the Pan-American Society for Clinical Virology.
