The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) urges you to support the amendment to add $7 billion to the FY 2007 House Budget Resolution for health, education, and human services programs. The ASM is the largest single life science Society with over 42,000 members who are involved in basic and applied research and testing in university, industry, government and clinical laboratories.
This amendment would increase funding for the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the other agencies of the Public Health Service that are critical to improving public health and safety. The amendment will provide needed funding for biomedical research, public health preparedness and prevention and control of infectious diseases.
We urge you to support the addition of $7 billion to the Budget Resolution to preserve critical public health programs.
