Travel Grants
Travel Awards for the General Meeting
Two types of student travel grants are available each year. The Corporate Activities Program Student Travel Grant is a $500 grant given to approximately 160 students who will be presenting an abstract at the General Meeting. The Richard and Mary Finkelstein Travel Grant also is a $500 grant given to 6 students presenting at the General Meeting whose research is in the area of microbial pathogenesis.

| Selection Process - Selection is made by the General Meeting Program Committee. The awards are highly competitive and only about 25-30% of those seeking grants will receive them. If a grant recipient cannot present the accepted poster, the grant money must be returned to ASM. |

| Selection Process - Only students who have been designated as recipients of the Corporate Activities Program Student Travel Grant are considered for this award. The General Meeting Program Committee will review the abstracts of the CAP Student Travel Grant recipients to select those best meeting the requirements of the Richard and Mary Finkelstein Student Travel Grant. A maximum of six grants will be awarded to students annually. |
Travel Awards for ICAAC
ASM Student and Post Doctoral Fellow Travel Grant Award
The ICAAC Program Committee will award travel grants worth at least $500, to support students' attendance at the 43rd ICAAC. Travel grants are selected on the basis of the scientific quality of the submitted abstracts. Preference is given to students who have not received a travel grant in the past two years, and the Committee strives to award only one travel grant per laboratory. They are sponsored by the ASM Corporate Partners.Criteria:
· ASM membership at time of application.
· Undergraduate or pre-doctoral student; Ph.D. or M.D. within two years of
graduation at the time of the meeting; or an M.D. in a residency or fellowship program within six years of receipt of the M.D. degree at the time of the meeting.
· Cover letter from the applicant, including their contact information, accompanied by letter of nomination from a faculty member on department letterhead, stating that the applicant is expected to be active in the training or degree program at the time of the meeting. If the applicant will have attained their terminal degree at the time of the meeting, the date of graduation must be included in this letter.
· Submission of an abstract for the 43rd ICAAC, which is accepted for
presentation.
· Letter of nomination, copy of the abstract, and submission control number are due by May 30, 2003, to:

Student Travel Awards for ASM Conferences
ASM Student Travel Grant Award
ASM has provided funds for the awarding travel grants of $500 each to predoctoral students. To qualify, applicants must:
a. be a member of ASM (student membership in ASM is only $15);
b. be a presenter on an accepted abstract; and
c. must be at the predoctoral level at the time of abstract submission.
Applicants submitting an abstract via the ASM web site should check the box on the screen when filling out the electronic submission form where indicated. In addition, selected recipients must return a confirmation form sent with notice of award selection, including proof of predoctoral status, either in the form of a copy of the validated student identification card, or a letter on departmental letterhead from their departmental chair which verifies their student status.
