Assistant Director, Marketing (Full-Time Position)

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM), a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington DC, is seeking an Assistant Director, Marketing in the Marketing and Communications Department.  The primary responsibilities will be managing ASM’s marketing, with a particular focus on market analysis, strategy, brand management and creative implementation of tactics to achieve a user-friendly, unified, seamless user experience and meet the organization’s strategic positioning and revenue objectives.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications required, Master’s degree a plus
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in marketing required, for-profit and association, scientific or medical experience a plus
  • Strong leadership and management skills including the leadership skills required to define and manage a set of goals involving diverse contributors and content types
  • Understanding of building and leveraging market intelligence and business analytics to shape strategy and improve connections with stakeholders
  • 5-years supervisory experience
  • Successful digital marketing and communication experience, with the most important aspect being to think “customer first” and to continually deploy effective/appropriate digital tools in a changing marketing environment
  • Ability to be innovative, creative and effective
  • Proven writing and editorial skills
  • Proven presentation skills
  • Familiarity in web analytics tools (i.e. Google Analytics), social media marketing applications (i.e. SocialStudio, etc.) , and bulk email marketing tools (i.e. bluehornet or mail chimp etc)
  • Familiarity with CMS or AMS systems and skill leveraging customer data and insights
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent support and facilitation skills
  • Superior customer service skill set
  • Some travel to industry and conference events may be required
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities at once
  • Budget development and reporting experience
  • Prior contract negotiation and contract management experience
