My research concerned the biochemistry of genetic recombination, starting with the development of an assay to detect the invasion of double-stranded DNA by a homologous single strand, and culminating in the discovery that RecA protein can catalyze that reaction, and studies on how a single strand recognizes homology in a duplex counterpart.
