Fellowships

Students, postdoctoral fellows, and early and mid-career scientists are eligible for fellowships to conduct research and participate in activities that encourage professional growth in a new area. Funds may be available for stipends, housing, travel, and ASM membership.


STUDENT FELLOWSHIPS

ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship (ASM-URF)
A 10-12 week summer program for students to conduct microbiology-related research with an ASM member at the student's undergraduate institution. Requires joint application from student and faculty sponsor.

ASM Undergraduate Research Capstone Program (UR-Capstone)
Travel support to enhance professional development skills.

ASM Robert D. Watkins Graduate Research Fellowship
Three-year tenure for senior-level graduate students from historically excluded and underrepresented groups to conduct research in microbiology.

POSTDOCTORAL AND EARLY CAREER SCIENTIST FELLOWSHIPS

American Academy for Microbiology Colloquium Fellowship 
This year long Fellowship is for a recent microbiology Ph.D. recipient to further develop skills in science communication and public outreach. 

ASM Congressional Science Fellowship
A program that selects a postdoctoral to mid-career microbiologist to spend one year on the staff of an individual congressman, congressional committee or with some other appropriate organizational unit of Congress. The award will include a $60,000 stipend plus health care supported by the Martin Frobisher Fund.

ASM/CDC Program in Infectious Disease and Public Health Microbiology
Two-year tenure for postdoctoral scientist to conduct research in infectious disease or public health microbiology at one of the CDC national laboratories.

Career Development Grants for Postdoctoral Women
Given to enhance the careers of postdoctoral women with outstanding scientific accomplishments and potential for significant research in the area of microbiology.
