ASM-IUSSTF Indo-US Professorships in Microbiology: Required Documents

Teaching Professorship
In addition to providing the contact details for you and your host, you will be asked to submit the following documents through the online application system:

  1. Visiting Professor’s CV or Résumé: To be prepared in English; please limit this document to 5 pages.
  2. Description of the Short Course: Describe the goal of the course; the learning objectives (these objectives must be measurable); the language the course will be given in and provisions for translation if not in the local language; approaches and strategies for achieving learning objectives; and plans for assessing the objectives at the completion of the visit and within 3 and 18 months of the course. Please include a syllabus. Please limit your answer to 2 pages
  3. Professorship Budget: Prepare a budget showing ASM's support as well as all other sources of support for this experience. Please provide your proposed length of stay with the host scientist, and include categories such as travel, housing, subsistence, supplies, ect. 
  4. Host Description of the Need for Training: Consider the medical, social and economic impact of this training in your province and/or country. What current problem does the course address? What impact will the proposed training have on the problem? What benefit to the institution, province or country do you anticipate? Please limit your answer to 1 page.
  5. Host Description of the Department: How many full time faculty, post-doc or residents, graduate or medical students, and undergraduate students does the department serve? Describe careers of graduates from the previous five years. Is the department currently engaged in international partnerships with foreign institutions? If so, with whom, and for what purpose? Please limit your answer to 1 page.
  6. Host Dissemination Plans: How many individuals will participate full-time and part-time in the short course? Describe the plans to continue aspects of the short course at the institution. How will the new knowledge gained from the short course be disseminated regionally, nationally and internationally? Please limit your answer to 1 page.


Research Professorship
In addition to providing the contact details for you and your host, you will be asked to submit the following documents through the online application system:

  1. Applicant’s CV or Résumé - To be prepared in English; please limit this document to 5 pages.
  2. Honors and Awards - List any honors, awards, fellowships, or other recognition for achievement.  Please limit your response to 1 page.
  3. Statement of Career Plans - Discuss your career plans. What are your research interests? What are your long-term goals? What further training will you seek? What involvement in microbiology do you anticipate throughout your career? What teaching and service do you anticipate? Please limit your response to 2 pages
  4. Potential Collaborations and Proposed Research Plan - Describe the potential collaboration with your host as demonstrated in a research plan. How will this research benefit you, your institution, and your region? How will you integrate the work done at the host institution into your research? This research plan should NOT be written by the host scientist. Please limit your response to 1 page
  5. Budget - Outline ASM's support as well as all other sources of support for this experience. Provide your proposed length of stay with the host scientist, and include categories such as travel, housing, subsistence, supplies and other expenses. 
  6. Certificates - Include a copy of your certificate(s) of degree(s) 
  7. References (optional) - Your advisor and/or supervisor should completed the reference form (available for download through the online application website), though they may also write letters of reference if they wish.
  8. Host Scientist’s CV or Résumé - To be prepared in English; please limit this document to 5 pages.
  9. Host Statement of Research and Training Experience - To be prepared by the Host; pease limit this statement to 5 pages. Include a brief overview of: 1) the project, emphasizing how the investigator's project reinforces the host's research program 2) the research team, facilities and major equipment available to conduct the research 3) host commitment to excellence in training as demonstrated through previous students who have been trained 4) host commitment to international collaborations as demonstrated by previous scientific and international work 5) the hosting institution intent to facilitate sustained international collaboration as demonstrated through financial commitment and institutional support in terms of housing and other cultural services.
