Recognizes outstanding research accomplishment and potential of women scientists in Armenia, Albania, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, the Republic of Croatia, Romania, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan who would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy the collegiality of membership in the ASM and quick access to the current scientific information in their fields. The Award is an endowment which honors the contributions to bacteriology and to the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) of Dr. Morrison Rogosa.
Eligibility: A woman scientist holding a doctorate degree and currently performing work in microbiology in one of the aforementioned countries. Outstanding research accomplishment and potential must be demonstrated. Preference will be given to those working in bacteriology, but women in other fields are also eligible. The nominee does not need to be an ASM member to qualify for this award.
Award: Two-year ASM membership and two-year subscription to the ASM journal of her choice. Up to two awards will be presented annually.

Nominations: Nominations must be made by a working scientist and may be resubmitted as long as the nominee continues to meet the eligibility criteria. Self nominations will not be accepted. Nominations must consist of:
- A nominating letter detailing how the individual fits the eligibility criteria.
- A letter of support from the candidates’ institution
- Two letters of support, submitted directly to ASM by the references, which discuss the candidate’s strong potential and the references’ relationship with the candidate. The references must reside in the same country as the applicant and must submit their CV (not to exceed 2 pages) with their letter.
- A brief statement from the nominee describing how the award will benefit her and which journal she would choose to receive
- The nominee's curriculum vitae including a list of publications
