William C. Haynes was born in New York August 17, 1912. He earned a B.S. from Cornell in 1935, and a Ph.D. in Bacteriology in 1946. He was employed at the New York Experiment Station in Geneva from 1935-1941, and at the Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service from 1941 until his retirement in 1975. 

This collection contains materials relating to the following volunteer positions held by Dr. Haynes:   

  • Secretary of the Subcommittee on Pseudomonadales of the International Commission on Bacteriological Nomenclature of the International Association of Microbiological Societies 
  • Member, Subcommittee on Pseudomonadales of the Taxonomy Committee of the American Society for Microbiology 
  • Coordinator, Pseudomonas group of the Advisory Committee on Aerobic Pseudomonads of the Bergey's Manual Trust
  • Member, Advisory Committee on Allocation of Funds to Culture Collections of the International Association of Microbiological Societies
