Evidence-based Laboratory Medicine Practice Guidelines

Evidence-based Laboratory Medicine Practice Guidelines (EBLMPG) provide evidence‐based information to healthcare stakeholders about the effectiveness of quality improvement practices. They are developed by adhering to systematic review methods that are transparent, objective, and rigorous; ASM is utilizing the A6-methodology.

ASM embarked on development of EBLMPGs in 2011 and has partnered with CDC on the development of two guidelines, Urine Collection, Preservation, and Transport and Diagnostic Accuracy of C. difficile. Upon publication, they will be freely accessible online through a link on this webpage and print copies will be mailed upon request.

ASM continues to partner with CDC on the development of EBLMPG, and a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed to solidify the commitment. ASM was awarded a CDC cooperative agreement to assist in developing institutional knowledge and processes to measure the guidelines’ impact in terms of dissemination, recognition, and adoption. This five-year agreement will provide ASM the opportunity to learn how to effectively write and conduct surveys to ensure the guidelines are reaching the intended audience and are of value in the clinical laboratory.
