ASM develops Evidence-based Laboratory Medicine Practice Guidelines (EBLMPG) that address laboratory quality issues, pre- or post-analytic, that need improvement. ASM adheres to the CDC’s A-6 methodology. This methodology is transparent, objective, and rigorous to provide evidence-based information to healthcare stakeholders about the effectiveness of quality improvement practices.

Currently, one guideline is being developed:

C. difficile,  "Among hospital inpatients, what diagnostic testing strategies are the most effective in leading to improved clinical, organization, and economic outcomes?”

The next guideline topic is Antimicrobial Resistance.

ASM would like to hear your ideas for the additional topics. Specifically, what laboratory practices need improvement? What are the laboratory quality gaps? Submit your topic(s) by completing this form. Email your completed form to professionalpractice@asmusa.org.
