Lab Cap’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Initiatives

ASM is collaborating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Global AIDS Program on capacity building of global HIV and Opportunistic Infection laboratories in resource-poor countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. Under a four-year Cooperative Agreement with the CDC, ASM is addressing two key aspects of clinical microbiological laboratory capacity building:

  • Strengthening organizational and technical infrastructure of clinical microbiology laboratories for HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs; and
  • Assuring the quality of laboratory testing and HIV test results by instituting systematic approaches to delivering clinical microbiology services to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care programs.
