Dear Colleague:

An automatic, across-the-board budget cut of over 5 percent to nondefense and defense discretionary federal funding, known as sequestration, is scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2013. The ASM has been working along with other organizations to inform policymakers about the devastating impact of sequestration cuts, and funding shortfalls in fiscal years 2013 and 2014, on research and public health programs and urging Congress and the White House to work together on a solution that avoids sequestration. As March 1 approaches, it is timely to communicate to policymakers that the Nation’s investment in research and public health must be sustained and that sequestration must be avoided for critical programs that are essential for health, security and economic growth.   If you agree, please go to the ASM Legislative Action Center website and send a message to your congressional delegation http://capwiz.com/asmusa/issues/alert/?alertid=62383291.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Jeffery F. Miller, Ph.D., President, ASM
Roberto Kolter, Ph.D., Chair, Public and Scientific Affairs Board
