BroschatWashington State University

Shira Broschat was born and raised in California, but considers herself to be a Washingtonian by choice. She has three degrees from the University of Washington, all in electrical engineering. For many years, her research involved mathematical modeling of wave scattering from rough surfaces which has applications in remote sensing and many other areas. In the early part of the new millennium she became interested in bacteria and decided to pursue her new interest, starting from scratch. She is now a virtual computer scientist using her analytical and mathematical background to help microbiologists learn from the data they generate. Shira is a professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology at Washington State University (http://school.eecs.wsu.edu/faculty/shira).
