|Day to day responsibilities:
Manage assigned product ranges through focused projects, understanding customer needs, and working with various departments. Every day is different as the range of tasks goes from filing paperwork to forecasting next years sales and designing product strategy.
The job is really a mangement of communications as each function in the company is able to complete their area, you are just the orchestrator and ensuring everyone has the resources necessary to complete their part. This could be by leading meetings, understanding choke points, following up with other departments, or initiating conversations.
What do you love about your job?
The immense number of people I get to interact with on a regular basis. I have touch points in every department, as well as with customers, that I need to work with to do my job effectively.

Skills required include
Time management - there are always competing priorities for your time. You must be able to keep the big picture in mind to understand what must be completed and what can wait.
Negotiation - As you will be working with several departments, you must be able to negotiate needs to have win/win situations
Influence - Many people will be competing for resources and time. You must be able to convince the right people of the advantages of your projects and ideas in order to secure the needed resources
Ability to handle stress - When timelines and budgets are at stake, it is imperative you are able to handle the stress and pressure. Do not let it break your focus.
I have industrial lab experince which makes understanding these products must easier, as I have used many of them. It also gives me some upfront insight as to customer needs as well as a commonality with the customers.
Tips/Advice for how to secure a job in microbiology upon graduation:
Get into a company and grow from there. It can be difficult to get an upper level job straight out of school. Accept a position that is available and work hard, your determination, work-ethic and education will win you that future promotion.
