|Day to day responsibilities:
I have operational oversight of the Pharmaceutical Microbiology Quality Control Laboratory. I am a subject matter expert for site microbiological issues. Occasionally consulted on significant manufacturing deviations and change control. My job also includes being a member of Site Leadership Team.
What do you love about your job?
I love that I am making a difference to patient lives whilst helping employees achieve their aspirations.
Degrees, experience, license(s), and skills required for position:
It is preferred that one would have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Life Sciences with Microbiology, though an advanced degree is best. One must be an excellent presenter capable of communicating with executives and regulatory investigators. Those interested in becoming a Director of Quality Control must also be skilled people manager who can develop a team of skilled employees and develop the future leaders of an organization.
Tips/Advice for how to secure a job in microbiology upon graduation:
It is important to get as much work experience during or after studies as possible. Try to find a company or organization where you have the ability to try a range of disciplines. Microbiology is such a broad science that it is important to find where you are most excited. Volunteering or internships are also a great way to find the best discipline.
