ICAAC Travel Grants

ICAAC Infectious Diseases Fellows Grant Program

In 2005, ASM expanded opportunities for Infectious Disease Fellows and created the ICAAC ID Fellows Grant Program. This program offers ID Fellows a unique opportunity to attend ICAAC and participate in an experience specifically tailored to their educational development needs. This select group of Fellows will have the opportunity to hear keynote talks targeted to them, participate in mentored poster walks, receive overviews of recommended sessions for attendance, interact with ICAAC Program Committee members, and be given personalized attention including daily discussions to help them maximize their educational and career development experience. Costs covered by this program include: airfare, transportation to and from the convention center, hotel stay for the meeting dates, ICAAC registration, daily breakfasts and other amenities.

A subcommittee of the ICAAC Program Committee will select ID Fellows both from U.S. and International Infectious Disease/Clinical Microbiology Fellowship Programs. Recipients will be contacted following their acceptance by ASM staff to assist in making their travel arrangements. All Fellows participating in this program will be housed in the same hotel and will receive an itinerary of events for the week.

ID Fellows who have already participated in the ICAAC Fellows Program are encouraged to apply for the ASM Infectious Disease (ID) Fellow Travel Award.

Priority will be given to first-time attendees. Preference will be given to candidates who have abstracts accepted for presentation and who have not received this grant in the past two years.

Criteria:

  • ASM Membership at time of ICAAC;
  • Submission and acceptance of an abstract to ICAAC; preference will be given to applicants with an accepted abstract;
  • A PhD, PharmD or MD enrolled in an ID, Microbiology, Immunology or Pharmacy Fellowship Training Program at the time of application or meeting;
  • Application Form including contact information and cover letter describing professional interests, accompanied by a letter of nomination from the individual’s ID Fellowship Program Director on letterhead, including confirmation of ID Fellowship status.

ASM Student and Post-Doctoral Fellow Travel Grant
Students who submit abstracts can request travel support funds. Travel grants are selected by the Program Committee on the basis of the scientific quality of the submitted abstracts. Any request for a Student Travel Grant that does not meet the criteria below will not be considered by the Committee. ICAAC travel grants are $500 for North American residents and $750 for International residents. As these grants are meant only to help defray travel costs for attending ICAAC, students may need to obtain additional funding from other sources.

Preference is given to students who have not received a travel grant in the past two years, and the Program Committee strives to award only one travel grant per laboratory.

Criteria:

  • ASM membership at time of application;
  • Undergraduate or pre-doctoral student; PhD or MD within two years of graduation at the time of the meeting; or an MD in a residency or fellowship program within six years of receipt of the MD degree at the time of the meeting;
  • Application Form including contact information and cover letter describing professional interests, accompanied by letter of nomination from a faculty member on department letterhead, stating that the applicant is expected to be active in the training or degree program at the time of the meeting. If the applicant will have attained their terminal degree at the time of the meeting, the date of graduation must be included in this letter;
  • Submission and acceptance of an abstract to ICAAC, which is accepted for presentation.
