in Science through Networking between the U.S. and Brazil Time: Friday, May 11 from 9:00-10:30 (reception to
follow) Location:Â U.S. Department of State, Marshal
Center Conference Room. Â Entrance on 21st Street, between
Virginia Ave. and C Street Invited Participants: Program managers and
researchers from U.S. Government, Universities, National Academies of Science,
and Scientific Societies with interest in U.S. Brazilian cooperation. RSVP:Â ramana@state.gov
At the bilateral Science & Technology Joint Commission
Meeting in March 2012, the governments of U.S. and Brazil agreed to cooperate
to advance women in science, especially through enhancing networks and
opportunities for international research collaborations among women. Â
The State Department will convene a round table discussion on May 11th
at the occasion of the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil’s visit to Washington.Â
Participants will have the opportunity to provide recommendations to
Ambassador Shannon on how to enhance international cooperation among women and,
as an outcome of the event, will begin to establish a network of U.S. and
Brazilian female scientists with similar research interests. Â
January 3, 2012 - CSWM Communicator - Winter 2011 - 2012 Issue The Winter 2011 - 2012 issue of the CSWM Communicator has been published. The issue features an article by the 2011 Alice C. Evans Award winner, Dr. Susan Forsburg and a guide to pregnancy and maternity leave from the National Postdoctoral Association.

National Science Foundation announced new workplace flexibility policies
to support America’s
scientists and their families. These policies will help retain women in the
STEM fields.
Committee
Committee on the Status of Women in Microbiology (CSWM) This committee periodically collects data on the training and employment of women microbiologists; studies legislation affecting women microbiologists; interacts and cooperates with similar committees in other scientific organizations; encourages women microbiologists to participate in ASM activities; and advises ASM on matters concerning the status of women microbiologists.
