ASM provides a number of resources for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing careers in microbiology. Within these resources are links to a number of non-ASM sponsored programs which are provided for your information only. These resources have not been reviewed by ASM.


ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship (ASM-URF)
A 10-12 week summer program for students to conduct microbiology-related research with an ASM member at the student's undergraduate institution - requires joint application from student and faculty sponsor

ASM-Microbiology Undergraduate Research Fellowship (ASM-MURF)
A 10-12 week summer program for students from underrepresented and historically excluded groups to conduct microbiology-related research with an ASM member at a sponsoring U.S. institution


ASM Undergraduate Teaching Fellowship (ASM-UTF)

A minimum of 4 weeks (150 hour) instructional project for students to work with ASM faculty mentors at the students home institutions and field site mentors – requires a joint application from the student, faculty co-mentor, and field site co-mentor 

ASM Student Travel Grants to General Meeting
$500 grant given to students presenting a poster at the ASM General Meeting 

ASM Raymond W. Sarber Awards 

Recognize students at the undergraduate and predoctoral levels for research excellence and potential
