February 4, 2005 - ASM Comments on CDC's draft Guidelines for Preventing the Transmission of TB in Health Care Settings, 2005
ASM's Committee on Laboratory Practices sent comments to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on its draft Guidelines for Preventing the Transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Health Care Settings, 2005.

August 7, 2000 - Occupational Exposure to Tuberculosis Testimony
Dr. Mary Gilchrist testified before the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) Committee on Occupational Exposure to Tuberculosis. In 1999, Congress requested that IOM undertake a short-term study due to concern over increased rates of tuberculosis in the late 1980s and early 1990s, after years of decline. In the testimony, ASM states its concern that the 1997 OSHA-proposed rule does not apply to all employees of the laboratory, and also raises concern that the OSHA proposed rule references an outdated version of the CDC/NIH Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) guidelines.

September 1, 1998 - Occupational Exposure to Tuberculosis Post Hearing Comments
ASM submitted additional information as post-hearing comments as requested during ASM's oral testimony on the proposed rule published by the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on October 17, 1997 in the Federal Register entitled "Occupational Exposure to Tuberculosis."

February 16, 1998 - Occupation Exposure to Tuberculosis
ASM submitted comments to the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration on the proposed rule to protect workers exposed to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. ASM's comments focused on individuals working in clinical or research laboratories and recommended specific revisions to the proposed rule. Dr. Mary Gilchrist, Chair of the Committee on Laboratory Practices also presented written testimony.

July 25, 1997 - Tuberculosis Guidelines
The ASM submitted comments to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in response to the guidelines "Working Safely with Mycobacterium Tuberculosis in Clinical, Public Health, and Research Laboratories, Notice."
