November 18, 2005 - Survey of Clinical Microbiology Laboratory Workloads, Productivity Rates and Staffing Vacancies - ASM Benchmarking Study
The ASM Benchmarking Study, which is the final report the 2003 survey of clinical microbiology workloads, productivity rates and staffing vacancies, is now available. The goal of the Benchmarking Study was to verify workload levels performed by clinical microbiology staff, to document types of laboratory practices, and to determine current staff vacancy rates in microbiology laboratories. University hospital laboratories, community hospital laboratories, Veterans Administration laboratories, reference laboratories, and network laboratories were included in the study. The final report will enable clinical microbiology laboratories to measure themselves against their peer group and to determine the level of technical skill required for present and future clinical laboratory procedures. The Benchmarking Study is a project of the PSAB Committee on Professional Affairs.
