ASM International Affairs

ASM is committed to developing programs and activities that foster microbiological research and its practical application around the world.  To learn about ASM's international programs, click on the region of interest on the color-coded map below. To center the map click the star symbol between the arrows or use your mouse to drag the image.

ASM Ambassadors are international members of ASM who act as intermediaries between the Society and ASM members in their region to identify and respond to the needs of the local microbiological community. Ambassadors are currently based in 20 regions around the world, with country liaisons representing individual countries.

Funding opportunities are available to microbiologists in the US and around the world! ASM’s Grants & Fellowships encourage international collaborations in research and training, as well as provide microbiological expertise and resources to faculty and students throughout the world. Awards are available to both early career and established scientists.

Since 2005, the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) has been dedicated to strengthening laboratory capacity in resource-limited countries via the International Laboratory Capacity Building (LabCap) Program and a Cooperative Agreement with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A new comprehensive website for the International Laboratory Capacity Building (LabCap) Program has officially been launched. Potential volunteers may register within a secure database found on the site, and enter their relevant personal and professional information. The website provides detailed information on programmatic activities, partner organizations, and valuable laboratory resources and publications from ASM and other institutions such as the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To learn how to become a LabCap volunteer or more about the program, visit the website directly at http://www.labcap.org/.
