Full Membership
ASM welcomes to full membership anyone who is interested in its objectives and has a minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in microbiology or a related field. Currently over 37,000 full members, representing varied scientific disciplines, belong to ASM. International membership comprises  30% of the total membership. The membership fee for Full members is $53 for 2005. Join online and receive a $2 discount off the membership fee. Full membership is initiated on January 1, 2005 and expires on December 31, 2005.

Transitional Membership
The transitional membership rate is available to all those who are about to graduate or have graduated 12 months prior to the application year. Transitional members are eligible for member benefits and services at member rates, except where noted. The rate for Transitional Membership is $33 for 2005. Join online and receive a $2 discount off the membership fee. The Transitional member rate will be available to qualifying members for two years and must be used consecutively. Once a member completes two consecutive years at the transitional rate, the member will receive a full member renewal. Transitional membership is initiated on January 1, 2005 and expires on December 31, 2005.

Student Membership
Any fully matriculated student,  majoring in microbiology or a related field who has NOT earned a doctoral degree is eligible for student membership. Additionally, the name and phone number of your Department Chairman is required. Student members have all the privileges of membership except the right to vote and hold office in the Society. Student members receive ASM News monthly and are entitled to subscribe to the Society's journals at member rates. The cost to student members is $17 for 2005. Students who join after September 1 will have their membership become effective immediately and expire on December 31, 2005. Journal subscriptions begin in January 2005.
