General Information ASM Audioconferences are one-hour, in-depth learning opportunities reaching hundreds of microbiologists with just one telephone call. Each audioconference is an interactive seminar involving groups of people from many facilities in several time zones. In 2002, the program connected to an average of over 150 sites per conference. Without ever leaving your laboratory or office, you can learn from expert scientists and key decision-makers thousands of miles away. In this participatory session, you can listen to other microbiologists' questions, as well as get immediate answers to your own questions. All audioconferences are scheduled at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time (12:00 noon, Central; 11:00 a.m. Mountain;10:00 a.m. Pacific). Most audioconferences consist of a 45-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute question and answer period. Lecture outlines and supplemental information will be provided to each participating institution. Many of the audioconferences are "slide-enhanced," with 2x2 slides provided. Connection to the audioconferences are made through a special toll-free "800" number. All programs provide for one hour of Category 1 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit by the American Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). In addition, California and Florida Continuing Education credits are available. International ParticipationThe ASM Audioconference program is available to international sites. These sites should, however, carefully consider time zone differences and additional long-distance telephone charges. Registration Information When a facility registers for an audioconference, an unlimited number of people within the facility may participate through a single phone connection. Facility representatives are urged to complete and forward the registration form and payment as soon as possible. Register today for 2003 by returning the accompanying registration form with payment to Audioconference Registration, American Society for Microbiology, 1752 N Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036, or fax your form with your credit card payment (VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card) to 202-942-9340. Purchase orders are not accepted. Registration forms sent without proper payment will be returned. Because of the large number of registering sites, registration forms must be received no later than 21 business days prior to the scheduled date of an audioconference. This will allow ASM staff to properly process requests and ensure delivery of the materials prior to the audioconference. Audioconference materials are mailed to the facilities one week prior to the audioconference and should be received no later than the Friday before the program. Bridge Sites If a registered site also wishes to become a central point for several other facilities to call into and then be connected (usually through a switchboard or internal conference call set-up) to the single line connected to the audioconference, than the registered site is known as a bridging site. Materials will be mailed to the bridging facility and the additional sites if contact details are provided to ASM. If the audioconference is slide enhanced, additional sets of slides may be purchased for $15.00 per set to send to each of the sites to which the audioconference is bridged. |
