    Conference Overview

This is a mechanistic conference that will link organismal, genetic, and biochemical mechanisms to the environment. It is presented in collaboration with the Society for General Microbiology (SGM). SGM members will receive the same rates as ASM members, and student SGM members meeting the criteria for Student Travel Grants will be eligible to apply.

    Registration

The preregistration deadline is September 1, 2001. After that date, registration fees will increase by $100 per category ($50 per student category). Please note that registrations will not be processed until payment is received.  A confirmation letter and receipt of payment will be sent to the address given on the registration form. Please allow 2-4 weeks for your registration form to be processed.

If current ASM membership cannot be verified when your registration form is received, the non-member rate will be charged. Non-members who wish to join ASM when they register to receive the lower rate should download and print a membership application from the ASM web site and submit it with their registration form to ASM Conferences. Please see the registration form for details.

    Student Travel Grants

A limited number of travel grants of $500 each are available for predoctoral students and new postdocs (within one year of earning doctoral degree). To qualify, applicants must: 1) be a member of ASM; 2) be the presenting author on an accepted abstract; and 3) be either at the predoctoral level or within one year of earning a doctoral degree. Applicants submitting an abstract via the ASM web site must check the box on the screen when filling out the electronic submission form. All applicants will be contacted by ASM at a later date to indicate what information is needed to complete your application.

    Location

Tropical San Juan, Puerto Rico has been selected as the site of the B3 conference. The diverse landscape of this 100-by-35-mile island is filled with numerous natural wonders that include sandy beaches and crystal blue waters, bioluminescent bays, underground caves, mountain ranges, exotic wildlife and lush vegetation, and the only tropical rain forest in the U.S., El Yunque Caribbean National Forest.

    Lodging

Conference participants will meet and stay at the newly renovated Caribe Hilton, conveniently located near the cafes, nightlife, and historical landmarks of Old San Juan. ASM has negotiated a special conference rate of $155 per night, single or double occupancy.

To reserve a room at the Caribe Hilton, contact the hotel directly by phone at 787-721-0303 x5900, or toll-free at 1-800-CARIBE-1; by fax at 787-724-6992; or by e-mail at Reservations@CaribeHilton.com.
