ASM's 5K Micro Marathon Fun Run

General Information

ASM’s Annual 5K Micro Marathon will be held Sunday, May 18, 2003 at 7:30 a.m.

Run along the historic Potomac! Starting from "The Awakening" Statue on Haines Point, participants will have the opportunity to see the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the United States Capitol Building, and a host of other historic sites and monuments.

This year's proceeds will benefit the DC Library Renaissance Project. In many urban areas, realigned budgetary priorities have had a negative impact on libraries. Recent reports of the Washington, DC library system's significantly reduced budget, limited services, and aging infrastructure inspired the creation of the DC Library Renaissance Project. This project raises private funds to support repairs and renovations across 27 District of Columbia Public Library branches, launch new programs for children and seniors, encourage the training of young librarians and staff, and strengthen the system's infrastructure.

Proceeds from the 2002 MicroMarathon were donated to the Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers. The race is open to all attendees, their guests, and exhibitors. The Courtesy Shuttle will provide transportation to the race from all General Meeting hotels. The entry fee is $25 and all participants will receive an official race T-shirt and refreshments.
