ASM Sponsorships

ASM offers sponsorship opportunities to corporations that want to increase their corporate or brand visibility with ASM or its ICAAC or General Meeting delegates.

ASM sponsorships include corporate membership, meeting sponsorship, conference backing, awards, or support for a specific educational program. Sponsorship of all items, events, or activities requires ASM’s approval. Unapproved sponsorships are prohibited.

Regulations Impacting Sponsorships
In addition to the AMA Guidelines on Gifts to Physicians from Industry, new standards on pharmaceutical marketing practices have emerged from the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and the Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (OIG). If your company’s marketing efforts are restricted because of new regulations, ASM is available to assist with the transition of your traditional activities or events into ASM’s meetings.

Meeting Sponsorships
A small, but thoughtful selection of sponsorships allows ASM to produce meetings of the highest professional and ethical standards while providing exhibitors with additional name recognition. These opportunities are limited to avoid over-commercialization of ASM meetings. The type of meeting sponsorship determines the public acknowledge-ment permissible by an ACCME accredited provider (like ASM). Material items (registration bags, coffee mugs, etc.), educational items (Abstracts on CD-ROM, Expocards, etc.), events (Micro Marathon, etc.), or educational programs (awards, fellows, lecturers, etc.) are publicized to the fullest extent possible.

Benefits
All meeting sponsors are announced in official meeting publications (Programs and Exhibit Guides) and on ASM’s web sites. Some sponsorships are also acknowledged on signs, on specific meeting items, and in other venues. ASM welcomes company logos and themes, and in most cases, product names.

Availability and Cost
Meeting sponsorships are offered on an enduring basis (current sponsors have the first-right-of-refusal). Companies that agree to sponsor an item at each of ASM’s two annual meetings (ICAAC and the General Meeting) are given preference over a company that will sponsor the item at only one of the meetings. In many cases, ASM will reduce the cost of the sponsorship if one company sponsors the same item at both annual meetings or if the company secures the sponsorship for multiple years.

Corporate Sponsorships
ASM has other sponsorship opportunities available to both exhibiting and non-exhibiting corporations.

Corporate Activities Program
The Corporate Activities Program (CAP), ASM’s philanthropic program, supports travel grants for undergraduate or predoctoral students (Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D.) who are presenting abstracts at ICAAC or the General Meeting. The recipients of these grants are the scientists and researchers of the future, the potential employees of the companies participating in CAP, and they will be instrumental in the development of research and strategies on new and reemerging infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, bioterrorism, global warming, genomes, etc.
CAP members form a strategic alliance with ASM to insure that microbiological research continues in infectious diseases, new drug development, the etiology of sexually transmitted diseases, recombinant DNA technology, alternative methods of energy production and waste recycling, new sources of food, and other areas. CAP participation also advances a company’s corporate image with ASM’s worldwide membership and meeting audience.
In addition to corporate recognition within the microbiological and infectious diseases communities at ICAAC, the General Meeting, and throughout the year, ASM’s corporate colleagues benefit from web listings, acknowledgement in various publications including two annual issues of ASM News, discounts, executive privileges, a private executive lounge at each of ASM’s two annual meetings, advance copies of meeting publications, affiliation with ASM in publications, special invitations to ASM events, and more.
Two membership categories are available, Corporate Sponsors ($2,000) and the elite Corporate Partners ($10,000).
