Conference DescriptionSalmonella serotypes are associated with considerable morbidity and mortality among livestock, thereby posing a significant threat to animal health and well-being. In addition, Salmonella serotypes are the second most common cause of bacterial food-borne disease and the single most common cause of death from food-borne illnesses associated with viruses, parasites or bacteria in the United States, thereby posing a significant problem for food-safety. Furthermore, Salmonella serotypes have gained recent attention since they are potential agents of agricultural bioterrorism and have previously been used in a human bioterrorist attack in Oregon. The specific aim of this conference is to bring together scientists to advance research on Salmonella serotypes by identifying research needs and updating participants on current research developments. This meeting will bring together internationally recognized leaders in Salmonella research to present their latest results on vaccine development, pathogenesis, host adaptation, and mechanisms of persistent carriage. In addition, several talks will focus on the latest development on epidemics with multiple antibiotic resistant strains. This meeting is unique in its coverage of a broad spectrum of research areas related to Salmonella, which will bring together scientists from a variety of different backgrounds to identify research needs and to update participants on current research developments. LocationThe conference will be held at the Porto Conte Research Center, Alghero (Sardinia), Italy. Alghero, located in the Riviera del Corallo, is a delightful tourist stop with its shore abounding in lonely bays, creeks hiding soft beaches surrounded with dense pine-woods and indented cliffs washed by an emerald green sea. The always mild climate, transparent sea and scent of the Mediterranean vegetation complete this inviting picture. Call for AbstractsAbstract submission is now open!
