ASM Statement on COVID-19 and 2020 Meetings

March 30, 2020

After much thoughtful discussion, the American Society for Microbiology Board of Directors  has made the difficult decision to cancel ASM Microbe 2020, scheduled for June 18-22, 2020, in Chicago, IL.

We have notified speakers, poster presenters, exhibitors and attendees of the cancellation individually and shared specific details they will need. Within 30 business days of receiving notification, you will receive a full refund of registration and exhibitor fees.  Please see the Register & Travel page and the Exhibit page for complete details.

We regret any inconvenience these changes to our meeting may cause, and thank you for your understanding and continued support as we respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ongoing spread of COVID-19 is a serious concern for us all, and its implications have substantially affected the logistics of the meeting, including the recent indication by the city to convert McCormick Place into a field hospital. The health, safety and well-being of the ASM global community, including the city of Chicago, is our highest priority.

ASM thanks the program committee, presenters, attendees, exhibitors, sponsors and other contributors for their support of this conference. Meeting leaders are working with the Program Committee on alternate plans for members of the microbial science community to present and discuss their research, including digital and virtual options.

We wish you continued good health during these challenging times and look forward to seeing you in person next year at ASM Microbe 2021 scheduled to take place on June 3-7 in Anaheim, California.  In the meantime, please refer to the COVID-19 resource page on asm.org and follow ASM’s social media channels (FacebookTwitter and Instagram) for the most up-to-date information.
