ASM Statement on COVID-19 and 2020 Meetings

Updated March 19, 2020

After careful consideration, ASM’s 2020 Clinical Virology Symposium will not be held May 3-6. Based on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recent recommendation against holding gatherings with 50 or more people for the next eight weeks, we believe this is the responsible decision and in the best interest of our community.

In the event ASM is able to reschedule the meeting for later in the year or provide a virtual option in the upcoming weeks, we will send an update by email and put the information on asm.org.

We recognize the time and effort that has gone into the planning of this meeting and are truly grateful for your support. We’ve notified speakers, poster presenters, exhibitors and attendees of the cancellation individually and shared specific details they’ll need. ASM will fully refund registration and exhibitor fees within 30 days of notification.  Please reference the Register & Travel page and the Exhibit page for complete details.

ASM is grateful to the many volunteers and organizations who contributed time, talent, support and knowledge to CVS, and we wish you all well during these challenging times.  As we evaluate the situation, we are working closely with health authorities, local partners, program planners, and key service providers to explore all options including holding the event later in 2020 or holding a virtual meeting at a later date.

We wish you continued good health during these challenging times and look forward to seeing you next year at the 2021 Clinical Virology Symposium scheduled to take place on May 2-5 in West Palm Beach, Florida.  In the meantime, please refer to the COVID-19 resource page on asm.org and follow ASM’s social media channels (FacebookTwitter and Instagram) for the most up-to-date information about the virus, the disease it causes and any impact on ASM gatherings.
