Volunteer Governance Program Coordinator

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM), headquartered in Washington, DC, is seeking a full-time Volunteer Governance Program Coordinator in the Chief Executive Office (CEO). ASM is part of one of science’s most exciting fields. ASM is looking for a bright, enthusiastic, energetic individual who is looking for a great opportunity.
Responsibilities include support for the day-to-day volunteer governance activities, coordination of the volunteer governance nomination, appointments and recruitment process and to serve as back-up for the CEO’s Executive Assistant.  This position reports to the Executive Office Staff and Governance Director.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting c-level executives, preferably in a non-profit organization
  • Experience working directly with volunteer committees, and understands the value and role of volunteer leaders and member
  • Demonstrated quality control experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to compose clear, correct, and effective correspondence
  • Proofing and editing experience
  • Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Intuitive
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to deliver high level customer service
  • Courteous and professional demeanor at all times 
  • Reliable with ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Quick and responsive; ability to meet deadlines
  • Minimal travel required
