NEW - CMIIM List of Minority Microbiologists
The Committee on Microbiological Issues Impacting Minorities (CMIIM) List of Minority Microbiologists (CLMM) is a compendium of biographies that were featured in the Minority Microbiology Mentor newsletter (https://www.asm.org/index.php/publicpolicy-2/newsletters/minority-microbiology-newsletter).  The list is in response to the often asked questions, "Where are the minority microbiologists?"

November 3, 2015 - Members of the Committee on Microbiological Issues Impacting Minorities on Capitol Hill
The Committee on Microbiological Issues Impacting Minorities (CMIIM) traveled to Washington, DC and attended a Hill Day planned by PSAB staff.  They met with members of Congress and their relevant staff.

May 24, 2012 - ASM Submits Comments to NAS on Seeking Solutions Conference
The ASM submitted comments to the National Academies in response to their request to submit testimony on a conference the NAS is holding called, "Seeking Solutions: Maximizing American Talent by Advancing Women of Color in Academia." The comments were written by the Committee on Microbiological Issues Impacting Minorities. 

February 24, 2012 - ASM Comments on NIH RFI on Diversity in the Biomedical Research Workforce
The ASM sent comments to the National Institutes of Health Advisory Committee to the NIH Director Working Group on Diversity in the Biomedical Research Workforce on the RFI NOT-OD-12-031.

October 7, 2010 - ASM Congratulates NIH on the Establishment of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities
The ASM sent a letter to Dr. John Ruffin congratulating him on the elevation of the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities to an Institute.

April 22, 2010 - ASM Comments on the NIGMS Strategic Plan
The ASM submitted comments on the NIGMS Strategic Plan.  The comments were prepared with input from the Public and Scientific Affairs Board Committee on Microbiological Issues Impacting Minorities and the Committee on Biomedical Research. 

February 28, 2009 - ASM Comments on FDA Federal Register Notice, Participation of Certain Population Subsets in Clinical Drug Trials
The ASM submitted comments on FDA Federal Register Notice, Participation of Certain Population Subsets in Clinical Drug Trials.  The ASM’s Committee on Microbiological Issues Impacting Minorities (CMIIM) reviewed the notice and drafted the comments.

Committee Information
The Committee on Microbiological Issues Impacting Minorities (CMIIM) periodically collects data on the training and employment of minority microbiologists; studies legislation affecting minority microbiologists; interacts and cooperates with similar committees in other scientific organizations; encourages minority microbiologists to participate in ASM activities; and advises ASM on matters concerning the status of minority microbiologists.

    The Committee on Microbiological Issues Impacting Minorities (CMIIM) has developed an e-newsletter for distributing pertinent information to underrepresented minorities in microbiology and their advisors. This monthly publication, called "The Minority Microbiology Mentor,” will be distributed to members who sign up via the ASM website by clicking here.
  • ASM Minority Travel Award
    The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) will offer travel awards to increase the participation of underrepresented minority (URM) groups in the ASM General Meeting. The ASM will select post-doctoral scholars from URM groups in the microbiological sciences or faculty from Minority Serving Institutions. Each grantee will be offered up to $1000 to defray expenses associated with travel to the ASM General Meeting.
