Melissa Miller is a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She is also the Director of the Clinical Molecular Microbiology Laboratory and Associate Director of the Microbiology-Immunology Laboratory for UNC Health Care. Her research interests include the use of molecular methodologies to understand the basis of clinical treatment failures and inaccurate laboratory diagnoses with regard to infectious diseases. Many of the clinical assays she has developed are used as research tools to address specific infectious disease questions, such as the prevalence and epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance. More recently, she has been assessing patient and healthcare outcomes associated with the implementation of new molecular technologies.
