Roy Robins-Browne is a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Peter Doherty Institute, University of Melbourne. He is also Head of Microbiological Research at the Royal Children's Hospital and Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia. Roy is a clinical microbiologist with a strong commitment to the teaching and training of medical and biomedical students in bacteriology. His basic research into bacterial pathogenesis led to the discovery of several virulence determinants and pathways of E. coli, Yersinia enterocolitica and related bacteria. More recently, his laboratory has been exploring the genetic regulation of virulence as a possible target for novel types of antimicrobial agents.
