Bayles Kenneth 250

Kenneth W. Bayles, Ph.D. is a Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Pathology & Microbiology and the Director of the Center for Staphylococcal Research and at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. The research in Dr. Bayles’ laboratory has focused on Staphylococcus aureus with an emphasis on the characterization of processes, such as programmed cell death and differential gene expression during biofilm development. Although these processes are historically thought to be associated with more complex multicellular organisms, his research demonstrates that they may also be a common feature of bacterial growth and development. His laboratory has also been instrumental in the development of genetic resources useful for the study of S. aureus, such as a sequence-defined transposon mutant library and associated genetic tools that have been widely disseminated and used by the staphylococcal research community.
