Dr. Peter Iwen is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Pathology and Microbiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, Nebraska; Director of the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory; and UNMC campus Biosafety Officer. He also co-directs a Committee on Postgraduate Education Programs (CPEP)-approved fellowship for post-doctoral scientists to qualify for certification as a Diplomat in the American Board of Medical Microbiology (D[ABMM]). Dr. Iwen specializes in clinical microbiology with an undergraduate degree in Bacteriology from North Dakota State University in Fargo and both masters and doctoral degrees in Infectious Diseases and Molecular Diagnostics from UNMC. His research focuses on the development and evaluation of diagnostic assays for the identification of microbial pathogens with an emphasis in the detection of fungi causing human disease.
