Luzuriaga Katherine 250

Katherine F. Ruiz de Luzuriaga, M.D. is Professor of Molecular Medicine, Pediatrics, and Medicine and Vice Provost for Clinical and Translational Research at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. As a physician-scientist, Dr. Luzuriaga uses scientific investigation to inform the development of prevention and treatment strategies for common childhood infections. Her research has provided key insights into how viruses (HIV, Epstein Barr virus) interact with children’s immune systems to result in persistent viral infections. She has also been active in translational research that resulted in pediatric labeling of multiple antiretrovirals (including first-in-human studies of nevirapine) and in early treatment strategies aimed at achieving long-term viral suppression and remission in HIV-1 infected infants.
