Timothy Yahr is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Iowa  Carver College of Medicine. He also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies for the Microbiology Program. Dr. Yahr is a past laureate of the 2004 Merck Irving S. Sigal Memorial Award from ASM and the 2012 Jack Kenney Service Award from the editors of the Journal of Bacteriology. Dr. Yahr’s group has a long-standing interest in the Pseudomonas aeruginosa type III secretion system and is focused on understanding the role of the type III system in virulence and defining regulatory mechanisms that control type III secretion system gene expression. The group has been instrumental in characterizing transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms of regulatory control with the long-term of goal of translating that information into anti-virulence approaches to treat P. aeruginosa infections.
