Participants will learn the the nuts and bolts of preparing grants and understand the review process.                                    

 

Career Development I
11:00 - 12:30 p.m.

Opportunities in Public Health Microbiology
Beth Skaggs, Center for Disease Control, Atlanta, GA

Participants will know more about job responsibilities and career opportunities in public health at government agencies such as the Center for Disease Control (CDC).  In addition, participants will learn about the 2-year ASM/NCID Postdoctoral Associates Program.

 

Presentations and Feedback II
1:30 - 4:00 p.m.

Working Session
Committee on Graduate Education

Working in small groups, participants will deliver 15-minutes talks on their research projects.  Participants will be given advice for improving their presentations and tips for surviving a formal presentation at a scientific meeting. 
 

Career Development II
4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Opportunities in Administration and Research at NIH 
David Wasserman, Pharmacology Department and Karen Wasserman, Department of Bacteriology, University of Wisconsin, Madison

Participants will learn about the job responsibilities and opportunities in both research and administrative positions at the NIH.
