William Benjamin, Jr., Ph.D. (consultant)
Dr. Benjamin has been the Medical Director of the Mycobacteriology Laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham since 1991 and is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Microbiology there. He has 14 years of experience using the Gen-Probe for identification of mycobacterium and has used the MB/BacT ALERT since its inception. His significant experience in training residents in the use of the Mycobacteriology laboratory will be a great asset to this project. Dr. Benjamin has worked on multiple grants, including several with the CDC for TB and was the technical director of one of the 7 TB genotyping sites in the CDC's National TB Genotyping and Surveillance Network system from 1995-2002.
