CDC/Emory University Tour

Friday, June 8, 2018
$50.00 per person
1:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Take advantage of a rare opportunity for a special two-part tour on the subject of Ebola at the CDC Museum and the Serious Communicable Diseases Program at Emory University—only available if you register for ASM Microbe 2018 by April 26

The CDC Museum exhibit, Ebola: People + Public Health + Political Will, looks at the historic 2014-2016 Ebola epidemic and features artifacts, first-person audio testimonials, innovative health communication materials, and documentaries. The exhibition ends with an introspective look at “lessons learned” by CDC and its partners, and the efforts to create a public health and societal infrastructure that can conquer diseases such as Ebola before they become international public health emergencies.

Part two includes a tour of the patient rooms, anterooms, and unit laboratory of The Serious Communicable Diseases Program (SCDP) at Emory University Hospital. The SCDP Unit is designed to care for patients with known infectious disease in an environment that is safe for health care workers, other patients, and the community. Joining the tour will be Dr. Ian Crozier, a physician who became infected with Ebola while treating patients in Sierra Leone. He was admitted to Emory and spent a month in the SDCP. Through discussion with doctors, nurses and Dr. Crozier, participants will hear about the discoveries that occurred as a result of the clinical care in this Unit.

With only 50 spaces available, ASM will conduct a lottery of those who register by April 26 to randomly selected attendees. Please check the box on your registration form indicating your interest in attending. If you are selected, you will be notified, and a separate fee will be charged for the tour. Please note the tour takes place at the same time as sessions during ASM Microbe 2018.
