ASM has signed a letter to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi expressing concern about provisions in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that would repeal provisions benefiting graduate students. The proposed legislation would repeal the student loan interest deduction, graduate student tuition waivers, the Hope Scholarship Credit, the Lifetime Learning Credit, and educational assistance programs that are crucial to ensuring that students continue their education by pursuing advanced studies. Continuing innovation and economic growth depend on making sure that graduate education does not present an undue financial burden for students.
