The Branch Officers Toolkit provides Branch officers with information and forms relevant to their work with ASM Branches.

Maintaining Good Standing Status with National ASM

Only Branches in “good standing” per the ASM By-Laws are eligible to send Councilors to the ASM Council on Microbial Sciences. 

Requirements for "good standing" status:

  1. Each Branch must hold at least one meeting per year (the meeting can be a joint meeting with another Branch)
  2. Branch Officers must be National Members
  3. Branch must have at least 25 members who are also members of National ASM

Confirmation of Good Standing: To facilitate the confirmation of “good standing status” Branches must submit the following on an annual basis:

  1. Annual Notification of Branch Officers Form
  2. Branch Dues Collection Agreement Form
  3. List of 25 members who are also members of National ASM (in cases where ASM can’t confirm 25 through the ASM member database) - preferred format is excel
  4. Annual Report Form

 

Programs and Services Provided by National ASM for the Branches

  1. Branch Funding Program - Deadline for Funding Proposals is November 30
  2. American Society for Microbiology Distinguished Lecturer Program– Lecturers are available to speak at Branch meetings; all travel expenses for Lecturers are covered by National ASM.  
  3. Branch Dues Collection- New and renewing Branch members can join/renew online through the ASM website
  4. Bulk Emails – Upon request, National will send bulk e-mails on behalf of individual Branches (click for Guidelines)
  5. Publicity and Other Services Provided by National for Branch Meetings
  6. Branch Logos - Logos available for use on Branch materials

Students and Postdocs

National sponsors a Student/Postdoctoral Chapter program.  Branches are encouraged to foster the formation and growth of Chapters within their regions.  Please click here for information on how to start new Student/Postdoctoral Chapters

All Branch members are encouraged to join National ASM and take advantage of the many services it offers:  Join/Renew ASM Membership
